EVS volunteers participate for 4 days a week at Use-it . During the months July and August the time is divided between helping out in De Mafkees and at Use-it. You will be part of the complete organisation and join in all activities concerned. At Use-it is proving and sharing experiences/opinions about activities and sights in Rotterdam an important segment of the service minded way of working. As an EVS volunteer you'll have to discover first what is going on in town, how you can easily find several popular places and where is (for example) the cheapest record store or internet place in town. This will take some weeks and tours through the city centre. By then you'll be able to help out other budget travellers who are new in town. You will inform on the possibilities that Rotterdam has to offer on sleeping, eating, architecture, places to go out and so on. We will learn you how to make reservations for hotels, how to the arrange bike rental service and all the other services which are provided at the centre. EVS volunteers will learn about general work and the daily business of running a service desk (for example, order new leaflets, keep the website up to date, copy our own brochures, discovering what is going on in town, answering the phone, using the registration system and reservation system etc). During the high season (when you whole Europe has holiday) the upper subscribed tasks will take most of your time. The free budget guide Simply the Best is one of the main products of Use-it. Around the month May a new edition appears and additional tasks can be done. Tasks where you can think of are making photos, correcting and checking, doing research for places where the guide can be send to. Other contributions are made in producing new products/services for the target group of Use-it. This can be a project too. The content of a new service/product can be your idea, based on your Rotterdam experience and opinion what can be a topping on the already services of Use-it. Depending on the size of the project you'll work this out in a team or on your own. The EVS volunteers assist in promoting the city and the organisation Use-it while we are at festivals and other events with a mobile information point. Tasks where you can think of are handing out flyers, chat with people who pass by, create leaflets and gadgets in the preparations of the festival/event. While de Mafkees is open in July and August, your time is for 50% to the Sleep-in where you will help out in taking care of the daily business, like check-in young tourists or bar duties. Set up or organize activities activities for the guests has not been done yet but are here to start. Same goes for general information for the Mafkees crew about questions off the guests.
